Biography

John P. Kirk MBA

I started my working career in the UK accountancy profession in 1963. Since then I have worked in IT and communications, sales and marketing, training and consultancy and most key areas of business. I have also worked in both private and public sector organisations.

My first foray into business was at the age of 12. I was given a plaster modelling kit and soon discovered that I could make plaster ornaments and sell them to the neighbours, thus raising some much needed pocket money. Later I traded second hand toys, games etc. whenever I needed anything new.

Apart from some earlier “dabbling” I became seriously self-employed in 1978. (By seriously, I mean I earned a full time living at it!). In the last 30 years I have been a self-employed sales agent, run a successful training and consultancy business and am now CEO of a telecommunications and internet services business.

I first got involved in helping new and growing businesses back in 1986 as part of a new UK Government programme to help unemployed people to start their own business. Since then I have worked with a variety of organisations such as the Small Business Service’s Business Links and consulted privately with small business owner managers.

For me the real excitement of the past few years has been the way in which telecoms and internet have come together to make working from home a feasible reality for so many people. A large number of my customers are now home based businesses and benefit from the freedom and independence that comes from working from home.

I am now looking forward to early retirement to my “place in the sun”. However, rather than waste the knowledge and experience of quarter of a century in business, I have decided to make it all available on this website. It’s going to take a while to build so I have launched it “as is” and I shall add to it as I go along.

I hope you enjoy it and find it useful.
